Ergänzungstext: Among music publication the name Hal Leonard is a guarantee of excellence, and this book is no exception. In common with the other Hal Leonard Signature Licks volumes, Motown Bass is an in-depth study of the personal playing style of one outstnading performer, in this case the late, great James Jamerson. Jamerson's impeccable rhythmic feel and inspired note choices make his bass lines an object lesson to all bass players. Dave Rubin's accurate transcriptions and detailed commentaries greatly facilitate the study of this master musician. (The transcriptions are in standard notation and tablature). Motown Bass joins the growing roster of must-have bass books published by Hal Leonard (including Ed Friedland's Building Walking Bass Lines, Expanding Walking Bass Lines and Bass Improvisation and Josquin des Pres's Bass Fitness and Simplified Sight-Reading for Bass) and can therefore be strongly recommended to developing and accomplished bassists alike, who will benefit from th insight it gives into this important style of music. The Bass-lines of fifteen classic songs are minutely analysed in this comprehensive text, which also provides extensive historical and biographical information. The accompanying CD does not include the complete songs, only the bass lines themselves and excerpts from the whole instrumental backings, but this is surely no bad thing, since it will force the learner to refer to the original recordings. Songwriters and arrangers might also find the book ehlpful, since the song melodies, together with the vocal harmonies and chord symbols, are provided along with the bass lines.
