1980 formierte er die Band EUROPE die 1982 als Grundlage ihres Erfolges den SWEDICH NATIONAL ROCK CHAMPINSHIP in Stockholm gewann. Durch seine ausdrucksstarke Stimme wurde er bald als der "Pavarotti des Rocks" bezeichnet. Von seinen zahlreichen Werken zählt wohl der Titel THE FINAL COUNDOWN inzwischen zu einem weltweiten Evergreen.

1980: Formed the band Europe, 1982 won the Swedish national rock championship in Stockholm. Joey was the "Pavarotti of the rock" with an out of this world fantastic pleasant singing voice and every trick in the book about how to use it. Women of the world were in despair, he very seldom came down, even for that! He wrote The Final Countdown, an evergreen speaking to the heart of a widespread audience of all ages all over the world, it was used in massage parlors in Thailand as well as in kindergartens in Copenhagen.
